The doctor decided to try and induce Maya today. She's a week late and I still wasn't dilated, so this seemed like a reasonable thing to do. So, we went to the hospital and did three doses of a drug called Cytotec that's supposed to induce contractions and soften the cervix (sorry if this is too much detail). And after those three doses and walking at least 10 miles of hospital hallways, I still am not dilated and we were discharged. Maya showed no reaction to the medicine, just happily sailing along at her normal heart rate.
One of my neighbors was telling me about a shirt she saw a pregnant woman wearing that said "Eviction Notice" and an arrow pointing to her belly. I think we may need to buy this shirt! We are now scheduled to go back in for another induction on Tuesday. The doctor tells me that I will not be allowed to leave the hospital without a baby, so Maya will be arriving one way or another sometime next Tuesday or Wednesday. Let's hope this stubborness is not a precursor to her teenage years!
More details to come next week...
