Maya Walking

Check out the video of Maya walking! This is our first time using our video camera, so excuse the camera work.

Here's a video of her pushing her cart across the room. The videographer (Ken) did a better job filming this one.

And here's a clip of Maya playing with her singing dog. This one is very cute!

We are looking forward to Maya's first birthday - just 2 weeks away!

Happy 10 months Maya!

Maya is now 10 months old and crawling like a mad girl! She is pulling herself up and likes to walk if you hold her hands, so she's on her way. She is already crawling over to Daisy's couches and tormenting Daisy. We are thankful that Daisy has been around lots of our friends' kids, so she's really good with Maya.

Maya is well on her way with solid foods as well. She loves Cheerios, but is not a huge fan of the Gerber puffs. She has started meats, and seems to like the Turkey and Sweet Potatoes, but nothing else. She does, however, like pasta and bread. We think she's going to be one of those kids who does great on solid foods, even if she never really takes to the baby foods.

Maya's latest trick is being the bully at daycare. There are three other little girls there all within 1 month of each other, who Ken calls "The Ya-Ya's." He'll go to pick Maya up and three of them (Maya included) will be sitting in front of the toy box, waving toys around, going "ya ya ya ya ya!". They are all crawling, so they like to follow each other. When Maya gets mad, she'll just yank the bib of the girl in front of her to make her fall flat on our stomach. Ken claims this is Rachel's genes, but Rachel says she never gave any of her siblings a bloody nose, so that must be from his side of the family.

Here are some recent pictures of Maya..

The Latest Pictures

Maya is almost 9 months old! Hard to believe! She's not crawling or walking yet, but she's making good progress toward crawling, so it shouldn't be long. Daisy beware!

Maya and her best friend

As any parent will tell you, why buy the expensive toys when a good box is plenty of entertainment. Maya was having fun "sledding" on the carpet. Ken wanted to send her down the stairs, but Rachel is no fun and said absolutely not.

Check out my new couch! I have my very own Maya-corner!

Maya's new car turns into a walking tool...hint hint Maya!

Maya all dressed up - she looked really cute and like such a big girl!

Swinging in the Springtime

We've had a few nice days here lately scattered in between the rain. Maya has a had a good time sitting on the front lawn playing with her toys and the neighborhood kids. We've also explored the baby park where we expect to be spending lots of time this summer. Maya has had a lot of fun...she is definitely an outdoor kid!

Swinging!

This is fun!

Horses, Horses, Horses....and a Bunny!

Maya will be 8 months old on Monday and we can't believe how time flies!! She is getting so big (we know, we say this all the time, but it's true!). Her latest and greatest talents are waving and clapping. She LOVES to wave to everyone....we wave hi to Daisy in the morning and wave bye to her 2 minutes later. Daycare reports that she likes to sit in the doorway to her classroom and wave at everyone as they walk back and forth all day. At least she's not a shy one!

This is Maya's horsey that she got for Christmas from her grandparents. She is now old enough to ride!

I love my horse!

Man, that Easter Bunny is FUNNY! We tried to have Maya take her picture with the Easter Bunny at the mall but she just cried. That must be her Grandpa Jay's genes....he used to shoot the bunnies in our front yard with a BB gun!

Hmmm....eggs!!!! The egg didn't last long, as one of Maya's other favorite pastimes is banging things on her high chair tray.

Yea! Easter was a fun holiday!
(You'll notice a distinct lack of "My First Passover" shirts, as Passover is not a holiday of good food and cheer. We'll wait until at least next year to subject her to the joys of Matzoh.)

Visit to St. George, Part 2

Here are some more pictures from our trip....

Ken and Maya in the fire engine golf cart. Pretty cool!

Maya and her grandparents at Tuahcan

Hmmm! Remote controls and static, what more can a girl ask for!

Maya on her grandpa's motorcycle...she seems to like it. The Rosenblum genes run strong!

Maya and her grandpa on his motorcycle. We know he already has kid-sized helmets, but we'll see if she convinces him to put Sesame Street Sing-Alongs on his mp3 player.

Visit to St. George, Part 1

We went to visit Rachel's parents in their new house in St. George, Utah this past weekend. Maya had a great time and was a super-star traveller. Here are some pictures from our first few days there and our visit to Zion National Park.

We think the bib says it all!

The mountains behind us almost look superimposed.

Ken and Maya. Isn't her hat cute?!?!?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Maya was appropriately dressed in green...Ken didn't want to give those bullies at day care any excuse to pinch his girl :-).

We're heading to see Rachel's parents tomorrow. They relocated to St. George, Utah this summer and we're excited to see their new place. Yes, we're aware that it's an unusual place for two Jews from Chicago to move to, but they wanted to be somewhere that they could ride their motorcycle year-round and it's in between Rachel and her sister. Maya has another ear infection (round 3 of antibiotics since February!), so we're hoping this flight goes as smooth as her last one. The doctor has given us lots of good medicines to hopefully keep her pain-free.
Maya had to try on her summer hats because it's supposed to be in the high 70s-low 80s in St. George. We have confirmed that she has a big head because only one of her hats fit. The doctor says Maya has Ken's head size....poor girl!

Sorry Daisy, no trip to Utah for you!

How many colors can one girl wear?!?!?

Maya is Getting So Big!!

It seems the past few weeks that Maya is getting so big and doing so many new things! She does really well sitting up on her own and has started eating food! She's been eating rice and oatmeal cereal for the past few weeks and has tried sweet potatoes and squash, both of which she likes. We're not necessarily liking the diaper side of things, but she is pretty good at following the "poop at daycare, that's what we pay them for" house rule. Of course, last week she went through every piece of emergency clothing in her daycare diaper bag, but at least she's following the rules.

Yesterday we went to Babies R Us to decide which car seat we want to purchase for her. She still fits into her infant carrier, but it's getting too heavy for Rachel to lug into daycare every day. Maya did a good job testing out the carriers....we put in her one of them and she started crying, so we figured that was a definite "No."

We can see her first teeth at the gum line, but nothing has popped through yet. Expect some first teeth pictures soon!

The ladybug feet on these pajams are so cute!

Mmmmm!!! Squash!

Maya's version of multi-tasking....playing with a toy, reading her book and looking in the mirror, and smiling for the camera. She is a talented girl!

Maya is a Cover Girl!

Check out the link below....Maya made the cover of the GW Alumni Newsletter!

http://alumni.gwu.edu/news/2009_03/index.html

Once you get to the site, click on Maya's picture under the "Alumni News" section. You will then be on the "Alumni Valentines" page. Find Maya's picture and read the story!

Ken says we'll have to save this and include it in Maya's GW application in about 18 years...she should be a shoo-in.

A Treat to Celebrate Six Months

Maya was six months old yesterday! She has her six-month check-up on Monday, so we're excited to hear what the doctor has to say about her progress. At our last appointment, he told us to wait to give her foods until she was six months old because babies who eat before then have a higher chance of developing allergies. We know Maya is ready for food because she stares you down when you eat, following the fork from plate to mouth. We decided last night to try out some rice cereal and see how Maya liked it. She did great!!!

By her second bite, she was already liking the cereal.

She loves her stacking toys....and we thought the red one looked cute as a hat as it matched her outfit!

Check out all of my toys!

This onesie says "Eat, Poop, Read" on the front and the back has a jar of baby food, a diaper, and a book. We think the onesie is really funny and seemed to match the theme of today's post.

Quite a Week!

We've had quite a week! We started it off by going to visit our friends Moe and Carmen and their daughter Lexi last Sunday.

Maya and Lexi were a little more aware of each other than they were the last time we saw them. Any time Maya started crying, Lexi felt sympathetic and joined in. Maya had a great time playing in Lexi's exersaucer.

Unfortunately, the next morning Maya woke up with crusty eyes. She was crusty all day at daycare, so we decided that we'd better take her to urgent care because she probably had pink eye. Maya had an excellent time at urgent care entertaining the crowd with her smiles, laughs, and throwing of bottles and toys. We were surprised to learn that she had a double ear infection (but no fever or signs of ear pain!) in addition to pink eye. We have since learned the joys of trying to administer eye medication to a baby...she squeezes her eyes shut tight and whips her head away from you. At least we know she's a smart girl! Even worse, Maya HATES the antibiotics (even though it's the good bubble gum flavor!), so we're tormenting her twice a day by forcing her to take it.
Ken's Valentine Sweetheart!

Maya is a traitor to her officially designated baseball team, the Cubs. But she does look cute in her daddy's Oriole's hat.

Maya has been doing a great job sitting up on her own! We're excited, but our little girl is growing up so quick. Check out her chubby thighs and knee rolls!

Ha Ha!! I can sit up!!! Oh, and I love the sound of clapping!

What Girl Doesn't Love New Clothes

Maya has gotten some new outfits over the past few weeks and she looks really cute in them. Ken says she is already the best dressed baby at daycare, and he is dreading the days where she has to wear shoes too.

Ken says this is "Old School meets New School." Rachel says, "Look, Maya's wearing a shirt with guys on it that are old enough to be her grandpa."

To say that Maya is not a morning person is an understatement. We remind her in the morning that no grump-a-lumps are allowed!
