Maya is 5 months old today! I guess time flies when you're having fun. According to our home scale and measuring tape, she is 14 lbs, 2 oz, and is 26 inches long. She has almost doubled her birth weight and is a tall girl. She says that they need to make baby clothes for tall babies!
Here's some more pictures from the last few weeks...

Auntie Sue Comes to Town
We apologize for our long absence. Maya got a bad cold, which she then gave to both of her parents. In between, we had visitors from Boston (thanks for the snow Marcy!) and from Tucson (thanks for the sunshine Auntie Sue!). We'll try to get lots of pictures posted over the next few days to catch everyone up.
We had a very fun weekend with Auntie Sue. We borrowed an exersaucer from Rachel's friend Susannah and Maya is LOVING it! Daisy also like it because it puts Maya at Daisy-level. We walked around a little town nearby and got some goodies from their best bakery. We took Daisy on a few walks and watched some movies. Maya was really into the popcorn, as you'll see. We had a great visit and Maya can't wait to visit her Auntie Sue, who has 4 dogs instead of just one Daisy.

You Can't Get There from Here
As you may have seen on the news, we're experiencing some bad weather here. Currently, there is no way to leave Western Washington by land unless you want to go to Canada. All three mountain passes are closed due to mudslide risk (including I-90) and I-5 is closed for 20 miles due to road flooding. Amtrak has also shut down all Seattle to Portland routes. Ken just commented that it's strange to look outside and see no snow, no rain, and no wind. We're pretty lucky where we live at in that there's no real flooding here and the roads are in pretty good shape. It's probably a good thing that Maya has generously shared her cold with both of her parents so that we stay close to home this weekend.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year everyone! We finished off 2008 with Maya's four-month check-up. She is now 13 lbs, 8 ozs, and 25 inches long. She has gained an amazing 6 lbs since her two-month visit. She was a behind on her weight gain at that point, but is now on track and her doctor is very pleased. She is also a very long little girl. Her doctor said they expect babies to grow 1/2 inch a month and Maya's been growing an inch a month. We know that she definitely does not get her height from her mother! At her next appointment, we expect to be given the OK to start her on cereals.
We had a pretty low-key New Year's Eve. Maya got shots earlier in the day and wasn't the happiest baby. Rachel's friend Marcy flew in to visit us from Boston for the weekend, so we had dinner with our neighbors earlier in the evening and then Rachel headed to the airport.
We hope everyone has a healthy, prosperous New Year! If you made resolutions, we wish you luck in sticking with them. Daisy's New Year's Resolution is to lose 10 lbs...and our resolution is to help her do it so we don't get yelled at next time we take her to the vet!
